Flashing on the 60s - by Lisa Law
As all photographs of the "Sixties", these photos show the hippie/freedom movement of the times. But Lisa Law seems to have had great access to many personalities and also lived the "farm life" in New Mexico. Both of these facts allowed her to document 2 very different experiences of the times. Great photos! Of course, VW buses pop up in the background. Here are a few of the pictures. I suggest if you like them to find a copy of the book...

1956 Consumer Reports - The Volkswagen De Luxe
I found this in an antique shop in Portland, Oregon. It's funny where you find info on VWs. This and another Consumer Reports from 2 years earlier were together - both had articles on VWs (I'll post the other soon). I assume someone was buying one...

Little Blue as a working car!
Little Blue is still going strong. I don't talk about her here often because she is trouble free and just keeps going.
I've traveled some along the coast for work over the last 6 months and always end up taking Little Blue. My clients are impressed more that I made it but they also have grown to like Little Blue. Most, like all others I run into, seem to have VW stories.
Here are some pictures that have made their way into archived client files at work. They were pictures tucked in between shots of client's vineyards and tasting rooms and photo shoots with winemakers. It's a rough life some days. On these days, it's not....

A bay window on the cover of USA Today!
Granted, it is USA Today, but still - a bay window vw bus on the cover of a newspaper yesterday was pretty cool to see. This one was there because of the upcoming "Lost" auction. The bus was from the Dharma Initiative. Below is the article that was in the Life section about the bus and other "Lost" goods. $8000 is the opening bid on the bus. Seem a little high unless it is perfect. I can see already that the front emblem is not stock...

Hall of Shame: Bus creation at Bug Out 14 in Michigan
While flipping through an old copy VW Trends, I noticed the beast below that showed up at Bug Out 14 which took place in Michigan in 1988. Normally a fan of oddly welded together creations, in this case I'm glad the Type 2.5 didn't catch on.

Is that RELL in ReadyMade?
Our friend Rell Sunn seems to be popping up everywhere - and it's great to see. For those of you interested, Rell and a number of other cool vintage VW buses, are available for rent from Bill and Diane at Vintage Surfari Wagons. It's the coolest way for VW fans to cruise SoCal.

Making copies...
A few years back I took a class in screenprinting. I enjoyed the class but it seemed like the type of pastime that needed space and a reason to do it.
Now that I have a workshop/studio out back, I decided to try it again. Being Dutch, and not wanting to spend a great deal of money, it has taken me all summer to slowly accumulate the items needed for screenprinting success.
Last Saturday, I "burned" my first usable screen (there was a previous attempt the week before that went wrong when spraying the emulsion out).
Was there any question what this screen was? That's right, I am perfecting homemade Big Blue t-shirts. This design shows the bus in all his glory. Also, for those of you who came with Big Blue, there is a newly designed CD sleeve for the road mixes that I am starting to make for you guys. The title of the CD? Big Blue has made you a mixtape.
All this really means is I have another project on my hands. But this is fun and I can't wait to have a giant screenprint of a VW bus above the couch.
Stay tuned for the first poster, t-shirt and mixtape giveaways!
Who loves ya, baby? Big Blue does.
