Please excuse the lack of posts...
EP, Oak and I are in the middle of buying a home. So please excuse the lack of time spent blogging this last week. We'll get back to it as soon as we get through all this stuff....

I wear my grandfather's gun...
My grandfather was an engineer at General Motors his whole life. He made his home in Flint, Michigan, back when Detroit was the center of America. By the time I knew him, he was retired in Naples, Florida wearing hushpuppies, smoking cigarettes and eating fried egg sandwiches. He was a cool dude and I've always felt a connection to him because he loved the water and was an avid boater.
My parents recently sent me these photos. This is my grandfather, Sumner, standing in front of his 1936 Buick. It's hard to imagine him young, but these photos make it easier. He seems confident. And why not? A car you love. Fresh haircut and the pipe. The adventure of life still before you. The smile caught on film of a moment when you have it all in front of you.
Perhaps this spirit is passed on.

More garage cleaning on eBay...
Time for a little spring cleaning - in winter. I listed a few items from a big stash - John's Stash - this week on eBay. What is John's stash? I'll post more about that soon...
3 very small (I think tin) vehicle toys - perhaps part of a game? Police car!

Expedition Notes: The Farwood - Orland, CA
website
I have never considered this much of a food review blog - but something struck me a few weeks back. We see so much of the West Coast and are always trying to find places that are worth stopping at, that I could easily point some of this stuff out for your consideration.
Take the Farwood Bar & Grill, for example. We were cruising down Highway 5 coming home from Shasta last fall when and we were trying to find a good place to sit and eat. Somehow, we turned off at Orland and we were glad we did.
We walked into the Farwood, which is not too far off the highway, and were shocked at the great food and good atmosphere. I remember thinking at the time that more people should go a little further to support this place rather than the places near the highway. So, here I am, doing my part. Should you find yourself in Orland, CA, heading north or south on Highway 5, pull off and have a bite at the Farwood. You'll dig it...

Hagerty Magazine - the coolest magazine you can't buy...
For those of you who haven't heard of Hagerty, you don't have an expensive enough antique car (no judgement passed, we don't have insurance with them). They are one of the most highly regarded insurance companies for antique and specialty cars. My parents insure their 1940s Dodge fruit truck with them. They sent me this magazine that Hagerty puts out and it is way cool. It's like AAA's Via magazine, only all about cars. I wish there was a way to get this and not have to have their insurance (as our VWs aren't really worth that type of coverage).
Anyway, my parents sent this with a note saying I should get a job with Hagerty, since their offices are a few miles from my parents' home. Not sure about the job prospects, but the magazine is awesome (you can click on the images to make them bigger):
