VW Transformer
I stumbled across this ordinary looking VW bug toy at an antique store last week. I paid $1. But then, back in the car, it turned into a robot! Turns out it is Goldbug! Apparently, it's Bumblebee, later in his Transformer life. Hold still. If you look closely, you can see him change into a robot...

VW and Legos
I'm not sure what the deal with VWs and Legos is, but I love the old artwork on these. I'd love to find some of these for the shelves in the workshop...

From the Static Files: "1 Million"
A few months back, my vw camping friend Static told me I had been wasted time scanning in all these images that I had been showing on the blog. He said he had a hard drive stuffed with VW photos. At Bus City, he brought his hard drive and I copied them over to my computer. Thus "From the Static Files" is born. I'll mix it in here and there. So here's the first one...

Trainspotting 2010 - A VW campout near Twain, CA
Last weekend was the 2nd annual Trainspotting campout. Due to the fact that EP is pregnant and we would be driving through the 100 degree Sac Valley, we told Big Blue to stand down and decided to take our 2008 Camry.
EP has tried to like non-alcoholic beer. But it hasn't really taken...
The campground was Hallsted Campground, and it was great. It smelled of pines, had a slight breeze blowing through the trees, and the river was close by...
The campout is called "Trainspotting", because the train tracks are on the opposite side of the river. We heard maybe 5-6 trains go through while we were there. It's pretty cool.
There were a ton of VWs there. Trainspotting is getting pretty big...
Here was where we slept:
We had a lot of new people there, and that was awesome. It was great to get some new, interesting people camping with us. Good people and good times...
On Saturday evening, there was a potluck dinner which was fun...
And then Westy Woman, who organized the event, raffled off some VW stuff from places that donated to the event - Van Cafe, Go Westy, Highway One Coffee, and Stephen's Auto Haus in Sacremento. It was a great time and everyone took home something cool.
This is the shirt I won...
Static won the grand prize - a bag from Go Westy with a ton of goodies in it...
It was interesting to be tent camping again but we missed Big Blue...
We stopped at the Twain store the next morning, which has honest-to-God gold panning supplies...
The biggest town nearby was Quincy, CA. We stopped there for breakfast the next morning at the Courthouse Cafe. I had the "Love Boat", but the "Fat Boy's Fantasy" looked interesting...
We went east to go west, heading down toward Tahoe before taking highway 49 back toward home. It's awesome country. Here's a picture to give you an idea of the area...
Okay, so those of you who are interested, plan on coming to Trainspotting 3 in 2011. Details will be on VW Camper Family.
