The vast yard of infinite sadness - or - how I learned to love the Pick 'n' Pull

About a month ago, I had a chance to stop at the Pick 'n' Pull in Windsor, California (about 25 miles north of us) for the first time. It's like a giant candy store for project-car geeks. It was actively raining while I walked the yard and, I must say, my happiness that such a place existed and wasn't regulated out of existence was diminished by the fact the the water on the ground was obviously washing gasoline and oil into the water supply (and nearby Russian River). This sadness was compounded when I came across what you see in the 2nd to last picture. That wasn't a van. It had been someone's home. I can't wait to go back, but I might need a stiff shot of booze before walking that yard in a rain storm again.

Cool pictures. I too love to walk in junkyards - my wife thinks I'm nuts. That orange and beige Vanagon looks pretty sweet...the Vanagon paint color twin to my bus almost! Love that color combo. That's very sad about the sign you found in that van - I hope they have gotten back on their feet since then.

Steve - I know. I loved walking around looking at everything! Can't wait to go back...
