Bug near Big Blue's old storage spot...

This past weekend, I happen to be heading north past Redwood City, where we bought Big Blue. I had been planning on, when I got back to this area, swinging down to where Big Blue was wrenched out of storage, because next to Big Blue, there was an old Bug. I wasn't sure of the condition or the year, because at the time, I wasn't too interested in VW sedans.

So I swung off the highway in the pre-dawn hours last Friday and worked my way back to the storage unit and found that the bug was still there. By what I can figure out, it's anywhere from a '58 (large back window) to a '60 (I believe, in '61 they had the bigger taillights. Although, the bug appears to be heavily modified (so the taillights may not be original). At any rate, it's pre-'63 as it still had the Wolfsburg crest on the front.

It needs a lot of work to get it back on the road. But I am reminded again of how it is probably a good thing that we don't own some land nearby. Or I'd be trying to take this thing home...

At some point, the bug has been lowered...

The body was fairly straight, and rust free...

Cal-look tailgate.

This is inside the tailgate...

Aftermarket steering wheel.

Obviously, someone heavy into bugs...

Looks like it could definitely use some major restoration work. But it's not blue!
