9-2-11 - Week in review - 4 years with El Gordo Azul

It was four years ago today (the Friday of Labor Day weekend, 2007), that EP and I first set eyes on Big Blue. We've told the story many times, and we've already told it on this blog, but the thing that may not have been communicated was, at the time, we felt like we were starting a new chapter in our lives. We have been married about 2 months. The cash we were using to buy the bus was about all we had (money given to us as wedding gifts to actually buy a VW bus). We were on our way out of town in our 2007 Mini Cooper, headed through Yosemite on a camping trip. We made an offer on our way out of town. On Monday, he was ours.

Or we were his, if you want to look at it that way.

Here are the very first pictures we took:

Oddly enough, that bug you see sitting next to Big Blue was listed on Craigslist last week for $400. It hadn't moved in the last four years (and, I assume, many years before that). The listing came off fast so I assume it sold. Probably for parts, but it is nice to think Big Blue could pass his old storage lot partner on the road someday.

In digging up these photos, I started looking through more old Big Blue photos. This last year has been the least we've used Blue since owning him. And looking at these photos through the years - the beach runs, the wine tastings, the campouts with friends, it made me want to get back out there. It can't happen fast enough.

So, I pulled 5 of my favorite pictures over the past 4 years and posted them below. Enjoy. We have...

Hooray for Big Blue! I think Winnie the Pooh sums it up best, "As soon as I saw you, I knew an adventure was going to happen."
